What to expect on your shoot
Your portrait or headshot session with Paul Fosbury is a relaxed yet professional experience designed to put you at ease in front of the camera. Here’s how the day will unfold:
1. Consultation & Setup
We start the day with a brief consultation where Paul will discuss your goals for the session—whether you’re looking for corporate headshots, personality-driven portraits, or something more creative. This ensures that we fully understand your vision and tailor the shoot to meet your expectations.
When you arrive we’ll show you around: we have tea and coffee and a kitchen so you can bring your own drinks and food. We have clothes rails, mirror, bathroom where you can apply makeup and and a steam iron.
Once you’re settled in we’ll chat about the plans for the day, choose some outfits and take a few initial shots for lighting guides.
While you get ready for the first setup we’ll be preparing the studio around what we have discussed.
2. The shoot
Throughout the shoot, Paul’s aim is to make you feel comfortable, guiding you through different poses and expressions that highlight your best features. You’ll have the flexibility to review shots and adjust as necessary to make sure the results reflect your true personality or professional image.
We’ll shoot a couple of backgrounds in the morning. Stop for lunch for an hour then shoot two more backgrounds in the afternoon.
3. Wrap-Up:
After the session, we’ll review the images together, and you can select the shots that resonate most with you. There’s no rush—you’ll have time to choose the images that best capture the essence of the session.
Your finished shots
Allow five to seven working days from the shoot or after you place your order for shots that you choose after the shoot. We can often get shots to you faster than that but it’s better to allow up to a week.
If we’ve agreed a deadline in advance we will meet that deadline.
What to bring
Wardrobe Options: Bring several outfits that reflect the image you’d like to project—whether professional, casual, or creative. Paul recommends a mix of colors and styles that can give variety to your shots.
Personal Grooming: If applicable, consider hair and makeup services ahead of the shoot to ensure you’re camera-ready. Paul can recommend local stylists upon request.
Props or Accessories: Depending on the nature of the portrait, feel free to bring any items or accessories that help convey your personality or profession.
Retouching happens after the shoot. At retouching we can remove blemishes and manipulate the images to achieve more of the feel we were aiming for during the shoot. We don’t retouch to ‘beautify’ we retouch to bring out the best in the shot.

Location shoots
Paul Fosbury Portraits offers the flexibility of shooting in-studio or on location, providing dynamic backdrops that can enhance your photos. Whether it’s the warmth of your home, the vibrancy of the city, or a more corporate setting, Paul is equipped to create stunning visuals wherever the setting.
Group Shots
We specialise in single portraits but we are open to shooting groups of people by arrangement and if the project interests us. We’re not a conventional studio who shoot families and weddings etc.
We welcome you bringing a friend or partner to be with you during the shoot even if they aren’t being shot. We only allow children to be present if they are part of the shoot because they can be too distracting.
